Illuminated Components

Prime Products specializes in manufacturing illuminated components for avionics and other control panel or instrument panel applications, including light plates, knobs, buttons, dials, pointers, overlays, silicone keypads and more. Each product is built to meet our customer’s requirements for color, gloss, light transmission, luminance, chromaticity and contrast ratio. The part is produced and tested using a lighting fixture that is supplied by our customer, or we can procure the lamp boards and supply completed assemblies.

The process starts with an unpainted “blank”, which is typically manufactured in our machine shop from clear acrylic per MIL-PRF-5425 or from clear polycarbonate. We also buy plastic and silicone molded blanks from our network of approved suppliers. The blank is spray painted, toned and light balanced in our dark rooms, which are equipped with power supplies, imaging photometers and colorimeters. The graphics are produced via laser etching. Translucent colors or dead front can be added over the graphics as required. Each part is then carefully inspected in our dark room before a clear protective top coat is applied.
